Apple to Pay Google $1 Billion Annually for Siri AI Overhaul Using Gemini Model
Apple Inc. is finalizing a landmark $1 billion annual deal with Alphabet Inc.'s Google to license its 1.2 trillion parameter Gemini AI model for a complete rebuild of Siri. The agreement positions Google as a behind-the-scenes technology supplier rather than a featured partner, with Apple planning to transition to its own trillion-parameter model by 2026.
The Gemini integration will handle Siri's advanced summarization and planning functions while operating on Apple's Private Cloud Compute infrastructure to maintain privacy standards. This interim solution comes after extensive evaluations of competing models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and other AI developers.
Market analysts view this partnership as a strategic bridge for Apple, which lags behind competitors in generative AI capabilities. The tech giant aims to launch the revamped Siri in spring 2026 with iOS 26.4, marking one of the most significant AI deployments in consumer technology.
